Self-Cleaning COANDA detention screens are designed to capture and retain unwanted urban debris, plant material, and sediment within the detention basin facility, thereby removing these unwanted materials from urban runoff and as a prevention of this material entering public waterways. Debris never enters the flow control structure.
We utilize wedge-wire screening devices to protect the orifice plates which regulate flow at the outlet of the detention pond. Debris is trapped at the face of the screen and prevented from entering the orifice. After the storm has passed and the water level subsides, debris impinged against the screen falls by gravity to the ground in front of the screen.
Our experience has shown that the wedge-wire screens require little if any cleaning and almost no maintenance. Debris that collects on the face of the screen quickly dries and falls off soon after the storm has passed.
Typical Coanda Detention Screens utilize #93 v-wire with a slot opening of 3.5 mm. Alternatively, finer screens with slot openings down to 0.5 mm can be provided to achieve desired water quality objectives. Screen dimensions and configuration are tailored for the needs and flow requirements for each specific application. Normal mounting is accomplished by bolting the screen to the face of the effluent structure. All materials are 304 stainless steel.
